Ada Icon owner show Ada Kiwanis Club members The Icon

Harold Friesner called the 35th meeting (June 5th) of the 2011–2012 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:01 p.m.
Jon Umphress offered the invocation.
The membership anniversary of John Berg, (June 8th 1994) was noted.

In business:
--An updated financial report was heard from Brian Myers, Secretary.
-Jon Umphress presented a thank you from the ReStore from our community meal from last week.
-A Division 2 meeting was held last week in Delphos. New By-Laws Discussion concerning Lt. Governor Rotation of Office with Clubs.
-Joe Ferguson will handle details for the memorial tree planting in honor of the late Judge W. Petit for July 10th. Ferguson discussed the service clubs’ sign project.
-Bob McCurdy is arranging details for a joint Kiwanis/Rotary meeting with the Ada Citizen's Police Academy and others to hear a special guest speaker on June 26th. Major LeBlanc from Paris, France will be the guest. The meeting will likely be at the ONU Inn.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: K-Kids is a Kiwanis-sponsored service club for students in elementary schools. Each K-Kids club is a local project of its sponsoring Kiwanis club, and there is no district or International K-Kids structure. The K-Kids program was officially adopted by Kiwanis International in 1998.

Sandy Neely introduced Fred Steiner who gave a presentation on The Ada Icon (www.adaicon.com).
The Ada Icon has been launched after the success of 2 years of the Bluffton Icon (www.blufftonicon.com).
He showed that the icon for the website is a combo of the colors of the Ada Schools and ONU.
He then explained that weather alerts for the area will be prominently displayed.
There is a new picture of the day and new stories on the homepage.

Classified ads are free except for autos and homes for sale. Financing for the website comes solely from advertisers.  Additional items include a calendar of events, Ada history items, interviews of Ada residents, short videos of events in tow.  News stories are placed in categories, and a 7-day index of all stories posted in the last 7 days.

Since, the launch in May they have increased to 50-60 views per day, and they anticipate growing the audience in the coming months. Steiner then answered a few questions from the membership, where was thanked for his excellent presentation.

President Harold Friesner then adjourned the meeting at 12:55 p.m.
The Ada Kiwanis Club meets weekly at 12:00 noon at McIntosh Center (Activities Room #7), ONU.  Guests are always welcome.
