Roger Tarr was a 1947 graduate of Ada High School

Roger I. Tarr, 84, died at 5:30 a.m. June 21, 2012, at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.

He was born April 19, 1928, in Ada to Bernard E. and Cora Katherine Eberle Tarr Sr., who preceded him in death. On Nov. 13, 1948, he married Darlene Fitzpatrick, who survives in Ada.

Mr. Tarr worked at Wilson Sporting Goods, Ada, for 22 years. He retired in 1993, from Rockwell International, after 23 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Ada High School. He was an Ohio National Guard veteran during the Korean War.

He served on the Ada Fire Department for 20 years and had been an auxiliary police officer in Ada for several years. He organized the Ada Liberty Rescue Squad and was its first captain, volunteering for eight years. He was a member of the Liberty Conservation Club, Ada, where he served as a trustee for several years. He had been a member of Lodge 344 Free & Accepted Masons, Ada, and a member of Latham Lodge 154 F&AM, Kenton. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans and a social member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9381, Ada.

Survivors also include three daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Nelson, of Lima, and Linda (Michael) Dudgeon and Carol (Victor) Jones, both of Ada; four grandchildren, Bonnie (Bill) Edgin, Brad (Theresa) Jones, Rod (Brooke) Dudgeon and Deana (Jaime) Basinger; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Wildman, Rachel Wildman, Braden Jones, Andrew Jones and Alexis Jones; and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Kyle Edgin, Zack Edgin, Laurie Bassett, Brady Bassett and Kenzie Bassett.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth W. and Bernard Jr. Tarr and two infants; and a sister, Betty Quattrocchi.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Kent Mathewson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with military rites by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
