ONU men's soccer sweeps special awards, 7 all-OAC

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team won all five of the Special Awards and had seven players named All-OAC in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Senior Nate Bascom was named OAC Forward of the Year, senior Mac Church earned OAC Goalkeeper of the Year and senior Chris Matejka was voted Midfielder of the Year.

In addition, senior Austin Windsor was named OAC Defender of the Year and head coach Brent Ridenour was voted OAC Coach of the Year.

Bascom, Matejka, Windsor and Church all were named First Team All-OAC as were senior Cameron Johnson and freshman Keegan Ross.

Junior Matt Fleming also earned a Second Team All-OAC selection.

Bascom was voted OAC Forward of the Year for the second consecutive season and earned his third straight First Team All-OAC selection.

For the season, Bascom ranks second on the Polar Bears with 17 goals and leads the team in assists (12) and points (46).

In addition, he is now ONU's all-time leader in points with 147 and assists with 37. He also ranks second in school history with 55 goals and stands just one shy of tying Ridenour for the school record.

Church was named OAC Goalkeeper of the Year for the first time and earned his fourth All-OAC honor.

This season, Church has an amazing 14 shutouts, including a streak of 700 minutes and 25 seconds of not giving up a goal, while earning a First Team All-OAC nod for the first time.

Church is currently the all-time school leader with 46 shutouts and ranks second in school history with 331 saves.

Matejka was voted OAC Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-OAC for the first time. This is his second All-OAC honor.

Matejka has registered seven goals and seven assists on the season and scored an amazing goal on a bicycle kick in the OAC Tournament Finals on Sunday.

Windsor earned OAC Defender of the Year honors for the first time and earned a First Team All-OAC selection for the second time.

Windsor has scored four goals and registered two assists, while anchoring a defense that has given up just 11 goals all year.

Ridenour was named OAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and fourth time in his career.

He guided the Polar Bears to a 20-2 record and perfect 9-0 record in OAC Regular Season play and third straight OAC Tournament Championship.

Ridenour is is the winningest head coach in ONU men's soccer history, with a record of 214-89-26.

This is Johnson's second straight first team selection and third time being selected All-OAC.

He put together a solid season scoring 10 goals and registering six assists.

Johnson is tied for fourth in school history with 42 goals, ranks tenth in school history with 20 assists and ranks fourth all-time with 104 points.

Ross earned his first All-OAC selection after posting a record breaking campaign.

He has scored a team high 19 goals and registered 45 points, which are both ONU freshman single season records.

Fleming was named Second Team All-OAC for the first time.

On the year, Fleming has four assists and was part of a defense that did not allow a goal in seven consecutive matches.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Saturday when they face off against Thomas More (Ky.) in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. at 7:30 pm.
