Dumbaugh and Mengos lead No. 20 women's basketball to 64-42 victory over Baldwin Wallace

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh scored a season high 21 points and senior Kate Mengos notched her first career double-double to lead the No. 20 Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 64-42 victory over Baldwin Wallace Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-2, 1-1.

Dumbaugh shot 8-of-17 from the field, and 2-of-7 from behind the arc. She also snagged 7 rebounds.

Mengos finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Northern held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for a span of 10:57 in the game.

The Polar Bears used a 17-0 run to open the second half to expand their 35-29 lead to 52-29 with 11:38 to go.

Senior Joanna Snyder scored six points to lead ONU during the run.

The Polar Bears did not look back and never let Baldwin Wallace get closer than 12 points.
'We talked about defense at halftime," said head coach Michele Durand. "We looked to clog up the lanes and force them to make jumpers. We did just that and were able to beat a solid team tonight."

ONU and Baldwin Wallace both started off on a good note, with neither team grabbing more than a 5 point lead during the entire first half.

The Polar Bears trailed 28-26 with 4:15 left in the first half, but came back with a 9-1 run to finish the half.

Mengos scored six points during the run and Dumbaugh added three.

ONU shot 24-of-55 (43.6 percent) from the field, and 5-of-14 (35.7 percent) from three point land for the game.

The Yellow Jackets struggled shooting going 18-of-61 (29.5 percent) from the field, and put up 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

The Polar Bears outrebounded the Yellow Jackets by a 45-32 margin.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Saturday when they hit the road to face off against John Carroll at 3 pm.
