Morgan Dumbaugh becomes 10th member of 1,000 point club as no. 17 women's basketball tops Muskingum

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh notched her 1,000th career point as the No. 17 Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Muskingum Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears, who have seven games in a row all by at least 15 points, are now 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies  fall to 3-6, 0-4.

Dumbaugh notched point number 1,000 with 5:47 to go on a free throw.

"This is a great accomplishment," Daumbaugh said. "I have worked hard for this. But this is a team honor, as my teammates have done so much for me to get here."

She shot 5-of-11 from the field, and 3-of-4 from behind the arc, to finish with a game high 17 points. She also brought down seven rebounds.

Sophomore Jordan Kimes scored a season high 14 points off the bench and also had seven rebounds.

Senior Joanna Snyder finished with 13 points and junior Cenzie Yoder finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.

ONU never trailed in the game and started off with an 11-0 run within the first five minutes.

The Polar Bears maintained their double digit lead and took a 38-24 lead into the half.

Northern used an 11-0 run early in the second half to expand their lead to 51-29 with 15:31 left in the game.

Dumbaugh's free throw for her 1,000th point gave ONU their largest lead of the game at 73-43.

"Today was a good win over a OAC opponent," said head coach Michele Durand. "We made some defensive adjustment at the half and came out strong on both sides of the ball to put the game away."

ONU shot a solid 31-of-62 (50.0 percent) from the field, but was only 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from three point land for the game.

The Muskies struggled from the field going 20-of-67 (29.9 percent), and ended up 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from behind the arc.

The Polar Bears held the advantage in rebounding, 50-34.

Northern also had 20 second chance points, compared to just 10 for Muskingum.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Sunday when they travel to Denison for an out of conference matchup at 2 pm.
