Mathew Johnson leads men's indoor track & field at OAC indoor split meet

Junior Mathew Johnson won two events to help the Ohio Northern men's indoor track & field team to a third place finish at the OAC Split Meet hosted by Mount Union.

No. 11 Mount Union won the meet with 279 points, John Carroll was second with 168.5 points, the Polar Bears were third with 132 points,  No. 10 Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 83 points and Heidelberg finished fifth with 53.5 points.

In the DMR, the Polar Bear tandem of junior Evan McKee, sophomore James Rader, sophomore Dan Steigerwald and Johnson finished first in 10:30.25.

Johnson also was victorious in the 1,000 run with a time of 2:38.59.

McKee crossed the tape in the 800 run in 2:04.44, which was good for a second place finish.

Junior Francisque Pierre-Jerome captured third place in the 60 dash in 7.07 seconds

Pierre-Jerome was also second in the 200 dash finishing in 23.43 seconds and junior Adrian Arias was third posting a time of 23.54 seconds.

The Polar Bears had four runners finish in the top five of the 5,000 run.

Senior Michael Simmons came in second place with a time of 15:36.57, junior Mark Berton was third finishing in 15:38.81 and sophomores Nate Rosenbaum and Jeff Denny came in fourth and fifth with times of 15:39.48 and 15:42.95 respectively.

Freshman Brandon Ike notched a third place finish in the pole vault, with a vault of 4.15 meters.

Junior Josh Colbert was third in the long jump, leaping 6.85 meters and sophomore Devon Jones was fourth covering 6.81 meters with his jump.

Ohio Northern will return to action when it hosts the Joe Banks Invitational on February 2 at 11 a.m..
