Women's tennis tops St. Mary's (Ind.); falls to Case Western Reserve

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over St. Mary's (Ind.), but fell to Case Western Reserve by an 8-1 score on Saturday.

The Polar Bears record now stands at 7-1 on the season.

In the first match against St. Mary's, ONU won two of the three doubles courts.

Junior Michelle Tuma and freshmanRachael Miller scored an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and sophomores Brittany Millerand Kristin Cellentani won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Northern got a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles from freshmanMeghan Letizia, a 6-0 6-2 win from Brittany Miller at No. 4 singles and a 6-1, 6-2 win from Rachael Miller at No. 6 singles.

Cellentani won 8-5 at No. 3 singles and freshman Taryn Strombeck won 8-4 at No. 5 singles.

Against Case Western, Brittany Miller scored the lone Polar Bear victory, winning 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 4 singles.

Strombeck dropped a tight match at No. 5 singles by a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) score.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on March 3 when it plays Occidental (Calif.) and Cal Tech in the first two matches of its spring trip.
