A lot to do in June in Hardin County

The Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance has provided the Icon with this fun filled calendar of events for June and into the summer.  All this information and more can also be found at www.hardinohio.org .

Kenton Parks & Rec Activities

  • June 8 - "Arts in the Parks" for Grades 3-8 at Pioneer Park 10AM to 12 p.m.. Join the Hardin County Players and learn new acting skills!
  • June 13 – Basketball 3 – on – 3 Registration begins at 8:30AM. Girls will play girls and boys will play boys. Trophies awarded to first, second and third place winners. For grades 3-5.
  • June 17 - The Johnny Appleseed Program on Insects for Preschool through 5th grade will take place at Pioneer Park on Franklin St, Kenton. From 7PM-8PM learn all about insects!

Classes offered at Wolf Creek Art Center
June 13 & June 20, 7-9PM - Oil Painting-Raccoon Eating Watermelon-Fur painting techniques: Bring oil paints (basic colors), brushes etc and choice of surface. No fee.

F.A.M.E. (Fun Activity Motivates Everyone)
Fun interactive activities and great information will be available on June 12 from 4PM-7PM at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. Three age appropriate bicycles & helmets to be given away as well as a package of 4 Zoombeezi Bay tickets. This event is geared toward kids ages 0-12 years. Music on Main
Enjoy dinner at local restaurants or Rotary's Chicken BBQ Fundraiser at Hays Insurance, visit local businesses and listen and dance to music at The Depot Parking Lot on June 14 from 6PM-8PM. Music provided by: WONB 94.9 FM - From the 50's to today. Tea with Louella
Have you made your reservations for Tea with Louella? The event will be June 14, 3PM at the Sullivan-Johnson House. You can purchase your tickets at the Museum or just give us call. You do not want to miss out on this exciting afternoon. Call Linda at 419.673-7147.

Children’s Summer Theatre Workshop
The Hardin County Players will once again offer their Children’s Summer Theatre Workshop June 17-21 & 24-28 at the Kenton Middle School from 1-4PM. The final performance will be on Friday, June 28 at 7pm.

Cost for the workshop is $15 for HCP members or $25 for non-member, per child. This includes a t-shirt, and a daily snack break. The Workshop is limited to 60 children. Poker Run for Animals
The 8th Annual Poker Run for Animals will be held Saturday June 15. Registration at 10AM, first bike out at 11AM, last bike in at 4PM, to be held at the Hardin County Humane Society, 13510 SR 68 S. of Kenton. Any rider who brings in a donation of a bag of dog or cat food will be entered into a special drawing for a gas card. For questions call 419-674-3683, 419-674-3808.

Wonderful Wednesdays are Back!
Wonderful Wednesdays will take place July 10, July 17, July 24 and July 31 from 10 AM to 12  pm..

Children ages 8-12 will enjoy hands on activities including-Tie Dye a T Shirt, Dulcimers, Steve the Art Teacher and Silhouettes. Last day to register is June 26.

There is no cost, but pre-registration is required to ensure a minimum of 10 participants and ample supplies. Call 419.673.7147 or email Linda [email protected]. Wonderful Wednesdays is made possible by a grant from the Hardin County Community Foundation.

Youth Art Contest
The MLJ-Hardin County library will be having a Youth Art Contest.  Those who are aged 10-18 are eligible to enter.

The categories are drawing, painting, needlecrafts, jewelry, sculpture, art piece using recycled materials.

The entry deadline is June 29. Judging will be held July 2, winners announced July 3. Grand prize winner will have the choice of a Kindle Fire or an Ipod Nano. First prize winner in each category will receive a gift card to Hobby Lobby. All artwork must be original, no coloring pages please. American Red Cross Swimming Lessons
Ada Kiwanis Club has announced that American Red Cross Swimming lessons will be held at the Ada Municipal Swimming Pool on July 8-12 and July 15, 16, 18 and 19. The registration fee is $3 per student.

Class size is limited to the first 25 students per level. Children ages 5 and older by July 8, 2013 and adults are welcome to sign-up for lessons. Those interested are asked to complete a registration form for each swimmer.

Area Farmers’ Markets

  • Kenton Farmers’ Market will continue on Saturdays from 9AM-12NOON through September. The Market will be in the same location as previous years on W. Columbus Street between Detroit Street and Market Street. There will be a minimal booth fee to cover the cost of advertising. Please contact Lynn Hoover at 419-674-4580 for more information.
  • Forest Farmers’ Market is held on Saturdays, new hours are 10AM to 1PM in the Forest-Jackson Library Parking Lot. Also new this year, currently one vendor is accepting Senior Nutrition Program and WIC. In addition, one vendor will be accepting debit cards!
  • Ada Farmers’ Market will be held every Thursday in the Community Health Professional’s Parking lot from 4PM-7PM. Contact Deb Curlis at 419-634-7443 for more information.
  • Hardin Memorial Hospital will kick off their Farmers’ Market season on June 13 from 11:30AM to 3:30PM in the northwest parking lot. There is no charge to be a part of the market. Any vendor that is interested in participating and falls under the guidelines should contact Chris Davis at 419.675.8137
