Ada HS band places at Revere Competition

The Ada High School Marching Band traveled to northeast Ohio last Saturday and competed in the Revere High School Marching Band Invitational, hosted by the Revere Marching Minutemen. This was Revere's 8th annual marching band competition and the second year in a row Ada has attended this well-run and competitive event. Revere High School is located in Richfield, Ohio, near Cleveland.

Ada's Bulldog Band competed in Class C, defined as schools with less than 300 students enrolled in grades 10 through 12. The band performed their 2013 competition show titled, "Invasion: the Mystery of Stonehenge." At the event's awards ceremony, Ada earned trophies for "Best Auxiliary" and received second place in Class C competition. The Ada band was also honored and presented with a plaque at the end of the evening for "Best Overall Visual Effect" for bands who competed in either Class B or Class C.

The Ada High School Marching Band is under the direction of Jonathan Lischak, director of bands for Ada Schools, with the color guard under the direction of Amy Webb. On the field, the band is led by senior field commander Anabel Pinkney and sophomore drum major Chanler Hughart.

Ada's band performs a challenging musical score, with music written by Gary Gilroy. The band is comprised of 16 instrumentalists, plus six members of the percussion pit/drum line and seven members of the auxiliary color guard.

The guard entertains the crowd in fine fashion using flags, rifles, sabers combined with precision dance moves, as the band performs intricate marching maneuvers choreographed on a large grey, black and green tarp which spans from 40 yard-line to 40 yard-line of the field.

The 2013 competition show portrays a supernatural invasion of Stonehenge, the prehistoric monument in England, which dates back 3000 to 2000 B.C. and is one of the most famous historical sites in the world. Left by a culture which perished without leaving any written records, it's often just called "the mystery of Stonehenge."

The Ada High School Marching Band will next be seen in the Homecoming parade as they march down Main Street of Ada, starting at 6:30 Friday evening, followed by pre-game and half time performances as the Bulldogs entertain Paulding at War Memorial Stadium; game time 7:30.

Next weekend, on October 12, Ada will compete in the Buckeye Bands Invitational in Ohio Stadium "The Horseshoe" on the campus of The Ohio State University. Ada fans are encouraged to travel to Columbus and support your Bulldog Band as they continue their fall competition season at this prestigious and exciting event.
