Buy Local Holiday Contest
Forty-Five Hardin County Businesses signed up to participate in the first ever Buy Local Holiday Contest. The rules are simple: Visit Hardin County’s participating businesses and register to win gift certificates, coupons and more; Must be 18 years old or older to play; No purchase necessary; Employees of the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance, and the Buy Local Committee are not eligible to participate or win. Drawing will be held on December 12. List of participating businesses and detail will be available at the Alliance office, 225 S. Detroit St., Kenton, any of the participating businesses, online at www.hardinohio.org and our Facebook page Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance. This effort focuses on encouraging shoppers to buy local this holiday season.

Nominations for Annual Awards now being accepted
Nominations for the 2013 Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year and Community Service Awards will be accepted through February 3, 2014. Anyone from Hardin County may be nominated to receive these honors. To nominate a person, group or business for these awards, please complete an application and return with a short explanation of the qualifications that make this nominee deserving of the award. The application can be downloaded fromwww.hardinohio.org, from the Facebook page or picked up in the Alliance office. Entries should be submitted by February 3 to the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance office at 225 S. Detroit St., Kenton. You may also fax the completed form to 419.674.4876 or email it to [email protected].

Hardin County Safety Council Presents “The Funny Thing About Stress”
In this motivational and hilarious presentation, “America’s Funniest Stress buster,” Kay Frances offers a healthy dose of laughter that is just what the doctor ordered for your well-being. With her energetic, upbeat presentation, you’ll laugh while you learn without straining your brain. Kay will also have her book “The Funny Thing About Stress – A Seriously Humorous Guide to a Happier Life” available for sale.
Kay will be speaking during a regular Hardin County Safety Council Meeting on December 19 at 8am at Henry’s Restaurant, 995 N. Detroit St., Kenton. Limited space is available, RSVP by calling the Alliance at 419.673.4131 or email [email protected] before December13.  The cost is $15 per person and breakfast is included.

Food For Fines
Do something good for others while getting rid of your fines! Pay off your fines for overdue library items with food instead of cash now through December 30. One food item takes off $1.00 in fines. Bring in your food items to the CIRCULATION DESK.  $4.00 fine = 4 food items; $4.25 fine = 5 food items  4 packages of Ramen Noodles = $1.00 Only unopened pre-packaged food will be accepted. Food in damaged or dented packaging will NOT be accepted. Government issued food will not be accepted. Perishable food will NOT be accepted. LOST OR DAMAGED items can NOT be paid for with food. NO expired items will be accepted.
All items will be donated to Helping Hands Outreach and Neighborhood Opportunity Center of Hardin County. For more information call the MLJ Hardin County District Library at 419.673.2278.

9th Annual Gift Basket Silent Auction
The Forest-Jackson Library is planning our 9th annual Gift Basket Silent Auction which will begin on December 2 and end December 14.  The Library is currently accepting donated gift baskets and would like them to be in to the library by Thanksgiving.  For more information contact the library at 419.273.2400.

Christmas Parade
The Kenton Lions Christmas Parade will take place on November 30 beginning at 3pm. Lineup will take place beginning at 2:30pm at Kroger. After the parade, be sure to stay in town so the children can visit Santa at his caboose.

Candy Cane Tour of Homes
Candy Cane Tour of Homes, Featuring seven (7) historical and current homes and businesses to tour in their Christmas splendor will take place on December 1 from 1pm – 6pm. Tour begins at The Armory, 128 North Main Street, Kenton. Advance tickets $10.00, at The Armory day of purchase $15.00.  Keep Hardin County Beautiful, 419-674-2216 or [email protected]. On the day of the tour tickets are ONLY available at the Armory.

Calling All Crafters
On December 7, from 10AM to 3PM the Hardin County Historical Museum will hold a Christmas Open House. You are invited to set up a (one) table at our open house. The cost is a donation to the Museum.

Zero Weight Gain Challenge
Are you interested in maintaining your weight or even losing a few pounds during this holiday season?  Could you use some encouragement and guidance but don’t have time to attend classes?    Give our Zero Holiday Weight Gainholiday wellness challenge a try.     

“Zero Holiday Weight Gain Challenge” is an on-line challenge designed to help participants get fit by encouraging regular exercise, nutrition, and wellness tips during the upcoming holiday season.  Participants will receive weekly e-communications and have access to supplemental information available on Blogs and Facebook.  All participant information is kept confidential.
Anyone who documents a nutrition, health and fitness lifestyle change from November 25 to January 5th will be entered to win a prize drawing on January 20.  There will be weekly drawings for cookbooks, fitness products, and other prizes to encourage wellness - all participants are eligible to win.

Each week participants will receive free weekly e-communications, containing nutrition, health and fitness tips.  Additional food and activity logs will be available for download to help participants track their progress. Pre- and post- online-survey assessments are used to collect comments to improve future challenges and track participant progress.

8-hour NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training Session
DL Steiner of Lima, through the Manufacturing Extension Partnership and West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium, will conduct an 8-hour NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training session on December 12, 8AM to 4:30PM, at Rhodes State College in Lima. Cost is
