Betty Wirt operated the "Cubby Hole" in Ada

Betty Kathryn Wirt, 87, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 9:05 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on April 2, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William and Elizabeth (Hasson) Knox and they preceded her in death. On May 15, 1946 she married Merle E. Wirt and he died on November 1, 2010.


Betty was the owner and operator of the Cubby Hole in Ada. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Leah Circle. Betty was a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Chapter O. She spent summers in Grand Bend, Ontario. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ada Visiting Nurses and the Mennonite Memorial Home.


Surviving is a son, Rev. David (Jennifer) Wirt of Stratford, Ontario, Canada; a daughter, Deborah Peacock of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren: Shawn Wirt, Ryan (Darcie) Peacock and Jared Peacock; three great grandchildren: Molly Peacock, Kipton Peacock and Bryson Peacock; a brother, John (Deborah) Kogler of Bethel Park, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.


Memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the English Chapel on the Campus of Ohio Northern University, Ada, with Pastor Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Desenberg Cemetery, LaFayette. 


Friends may call from 2–6 p.m. on Friday, March 28 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with a P.E.O. Memorial Service beginning at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial service at the English Chapel on Saturday.


Memorial contributions may be made to Ada First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
