Faith Holbrook: "I can't imagine my life without 4-H!"

4-H is absolutely wonderful! My name is Faith Holbrook and I am 15 years old.  I couldn’t wait to turn 9 so I could be in 4-H like my older brother and sister.

2014 will be my sixth year and I love what I have learned in the past and am excited about doing so much more in the next few years. 4-H encourages cool ways to learn in a lot of different projects.

I am a member of the Hardin Co. Hootenannies Club. I raise goats all year long and I take many of them to the fair.  I take quite a few still projects as well. Last year I took scrapbooking again.  It can be taken for many years, each year learning more and more.  I really like doing projects with a deadline and I like knowing it will be judged.  It forces me to get it done and to do my best!   I really worked hard on the entire project and won a State Award!

Scrapbooking has been very rewarding to me. I love the memories it preserves. It also allows for so much creativity! There are many tools to use and lots of different ways of displaying each page layout. It is fun to collect embellishments and to think of fun ideas or themes for the pages. I love to show off my work to family and friends. It isn’t always easy and it takes a lot of time, but in the end I am so proud.

I would highly recommend 4-H to any young person. We have so much fun at the meetings, learn a lot, and then really love to show off our projects at the county fair. I am especially proud that 4-H started right here in Ohio. I can’t image life without 4-H!

About this feature
Hardin County has a long tradition of 4-H in our community. This year we are celebrating 100 years of National Extension, and 4-H is a big part of Ohio State University Extension.  In Hardin County over 850 youth participate in 4-H each year.
There are 34 different clubs in Hardin County, and youth can choose from over 200 projects to complete. Each week, the Ada Icon features and article written by a 4-H member about their projects and 4-H experiences.
The 4-Her of the week is also brought to you, in part, by OSU Extension Hardin County. To find out more out OSU Extension's many programs and services and 4-H, visit http://hardin.osu.edu.
