AEP contractors will start clearing tree limbs from utility lines

The Village has received notice that AEP will have contractors in the Village in three to six weeks to work on clearing tree limbs from utility lines.

For this year’s work, trees that AEP contractors have marked with a yellow dot indicate tree trimming and trees marked with a red X indicate removal. The contractor will leave the wood for your use.

Utility line clearing is an important and necessary aspect for utility companies. By reducing the number of risks to electrical lines, utility companies can reduce the number of power outages.

One way to reduce the amount of future utility line clearing is to make sure selected tree species are selected appropriately for the planting site. Several organizations have adopted the phrase “right tree in the right place” as an easier way to remind people to think about the location they want to plant a tree before selecting a specific tree.

For example, planting a tree that reaches a mature height of 25 feet or less near utility lines may require less line clearing than a tree that reaches a mature height of 40 feet and higher.

If a tree near your property is being trimmed or removed for utility line clearance as part of the work done by AEP contractors, a yellow card may be hung on your door knob. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the number listed on the card or the Village office.

The work is being done independent of the Village, but we will try to assist you in any way we can.
