Beulah Hays was active in several Ada organizations

Beulah Mae (Spar) Hays, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at 3:15 a.m. at her residence in rural Ada, Ohio.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1924 at home in Ada, to Jesse Roy and Caroline M. (Clark) Spar who preceded her in death. On May 30, 1948, she married Ralph D. Hays and he preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2010.

Mrs. Hays was a full time farmer’s wife and mother. She graduated from Bliss Business College in Columbus, Ohio, in accounting and then from the Lima Memorial School of Nursing through the Cadet Nurse Program. She worked as an RN at Lima Memorial Hospital and Gibbons Hospital in Celina, Ohio.

She was a life member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church of Ada where she was active with the Sugar Grovettes Quartet and the United Methodist Women. She was an Ada High School graduate. She was also a member of the Ada Bowling League.

She was in the second class of the Ada Liberty Township EMS Squad training, and then volunteered for many years. She volunteered with the Ada Red Cross. She was also a member of the Ada Area Doctor Search Committee.

Surviving are children: Bruce (Mindy) Hays of Celina, Ohio, Janis Hays Carse of Harrod, Ohio, Donald (Peggy) Hays of West Mansfield, Ohio, Bradley (Debra) Hays of Ada, Ohio, and Rex (Bonnie) Hays of Spencerport, New York. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons: Cpl. Nathan B. Carse and Corey D. Hays; a brother: Floyd Spar; three sisters: Zona Wyss, Helen Ludwig and Mary Alice Wintzer.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7,  at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Courtnie Morton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Ada, Ohio.

Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 2-8 p.m. and until time of service on Wednesday day at the funeral home.
