College of Law records second highest bar passage rate for graduates taking test for first time

Graduates of the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law continued their record of outstanding achievement on the Ohio bar examination with a passage rate of 75 percent, which ranks second among students from all Ohio law schools who took the examination in February 2015 for the first time. In addition, ONU was third overall in the state for individuals taking the bar exam, which was nearly 10 percent higher than the statewide average.   

ONU’s passage rate was 75 percent for ONU graduates that took the test for the first time in February. Overall, 73 percent of all ONU graduates passed the test. Of the 411 applicants who sat for the exam in February, 262 (63.8 percent) received passing scores; out of 202 first-time test takers, 72 percent received passing scores.

Richard Bales, dean of the Pettit College of Law, said, “ONU Law's long-term success rate on the Ohio bar examination and other state bar examinations reflects the dedication of faculty and staff to providing students a personalized legal education. ONU Law is proud that its students can and do succeed at the highest levels.”

The oath of office will be administered on Monday, May 4, at 2 p.m. during a special public session of the Ohio Supreme Court in the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., Columbus.
