Ada band continues its winning streak

Now just a few points shy of qualifying for state marching band finals

The Ada High School Marching Band continues winning streak.

The Ada High School marching band earned first place in class C Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Buckeye Invitational.

This was the third competition of the season and the third time the Bulldogs have earned first place.

In addition, the group earned honors for best general effects, color guard, music and visual effects in Class C.

The Buckeye Invitational is a high school band competition sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA). It is hosted by The Ohio State University Marching Band and takes place in Ohio Stadium.

“To Infinity and Beyond,” this year’s competition show performed an a spaceship shaped tarp features Buzz Lightyear, space aliens, building blocks, and even a green army man. The color guard members use five different flags, rifles, dance moves and gymnastics during the performance. Amy Webb is the color guard director.

The show includes music from Toy Story including “You’ve got a Friend in Me” as well as original compositions by Director, Jonathan Lischak.

Instrumental soloists include: Evan Smittle on mellophone, Meredith Marshall on trombone, Libbie Milks on flute, and Hailey Maier and Callie Young on trumpet.

The band and color guard are just a few points away from qualifying for the state marching band finals. The band has two more opportunities: Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Bloom Carroll Classic and Tri-Valley Classic OMEA Marching Band Competitions in Carroll and Dresden, respectively.
