interesting design projects on display Tuesday

The Engineering College will hold its annual Senior Design Showcase at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 in the McIntosh Center ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

Engineering student groups will display their projects using posters and prototypes (or video or photos of their project if it is too large for McIntosh). The designs will be judged by industry representatives after the students give a short presentation and answer any questions from the judges.

The event will include 26 projects and 102 students working in teams.

Some of the projects include: Grizzly Design Group, which worked on two projects to address the aging infrastructure in the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone National Park and a team of students designed a prototype of the solar-powered aircraft proposed by a NASA scientist that would travel to Venus in a small Discovery-class launch vehicle.

The instrumented football helmet capstone team tackled ways to identify if collisions can cause concussions during ONU football games and practices. Using accelerometers along with communication devices, real time data can be recorded to protect players on the team to the fullest extent.
