ONU hosts track/field Invitational tomorrow

The No. 34-ranked Polar Bears will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as they host the annual Polar Bear Invitational at Kerscher Stadium.

 Northern will recognize seniors A.J. Cody, Eric Collins, Cully Gordon, Andrew Harden, Matthew Hommer, Evan Murtha, Cameron Rusnak, Kase Schalois, Lucas Shumate and Adam Smith prior to competition at Kerscher Stadium.

The invitational will feature 10 teams ... Field events are set to begin at 11 amwith track events to follow at noon ... The Polar Bears enter the invitational after posting a fourth place finish at the All-Ohio Championships.

 Schalois and junior Samuel Boyd led Northern at the meet ... Schalois finished first in the 5,000-meter run in 15:09.14 to lead Northern ... Boyd won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:36.03 and beat the rest of the field by nearly eight seconds.

Junior Bobby Borger also posted a top-5 finish in the 5,000-meter run as he finished fourth in the event in 15:39.14.

 Shumate led the Polar Bears in the field as he posted a second place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 180' 3.00" ... The throw is currently tied for 11th best in the nation among Div. III athletes ... Shumate also finished second in the discus with a toss of 148' 6.00".

Harden posted a top-3 finish in the 1,500-meter run in 4:06.21.

 In the shot put, Augustine finished fourth with a toss of 46' 7.25".

Junior Alexander Sibila posted a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing 6' 4.00".

In the 400-meter dash, junior Conner Karg finished fourth overall with a time of :49.60.

Junior Matt Molinaro was recently named the USTFCCCA Men's Div. III National Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Mt. Sac Relays and Beach Invite ... Molinaro earned the honor for the first time in his career, and completed the Div. III sweep of the award as teammate Emily Richards claimed the Women's Female Athlete of the Week Award and helped Northern become the first teammates this season and in school history to ever complete the feat ... The junior posted the fastest time nationally in the 800-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays and doubled back to improve his national mark in the event at the Beach Invite the following day.

ONU head coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 8th season at ONU with a 349-99-2 record, a winning percentage of .778.
