Robert Hubbell was active in several Ada community organizations

He was on the Ada High School "Hall of Honor"

Robert D. "Bob" Hubbell, age 87, died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 6:52 p.m. at Vancrest of Ada. 

He was born on Aug. 7, 1929 in Ada, Ohio to Samuel C. and Lavon (Rowles) Hubbell who preceded him in death. On Nov. 19, 1950 Bob married Wilma Mae Mansfield and she died on Dec. 19, 2010. 

Bob retired in 1996 after working 45 years for the Sprint Telephone Company of Lima in Public Relations and Community Division. During his time at Sprint he also worked in Central Office Maintenance, station repairman, sales, division sales manager. 

Bob graduated from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff School and the National Defense University. He was an instructor for the Army Intelligence School (AIS) for 19 years. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran from 1947 to 1985, retiring with the rank of Full Colonel in the Army Reserve. 

He served active duty from 1952 to 1953 in Korea during the Korean War. In 2004, Bob traveled to Korea with the Veterans Military Tour which led him to join the Second Infantry Division Korean War Veterans Alliance and serving as its president in 2008. 

He served on the Hardin County Republican Central Committee for 40 years, was on the County Board of Election for 10 years, Liberty Township Trustee for 4 years and was a Hardin County Commissioner for 8 years. He was a member of the Ada Masonic Lodge #344 F&AM, the Elks Lodge #157 B.P.O.E., Rotary International for 10 years and the Optimist Club for 10 years. 

Bob was a life member and former commander of the American Legion Post #185. He was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 and was a member for 45 years of the Reserve Officers Association. He was a member of the UTELCO Telephone Pioneers for 20 years. 

In 2001 he was inducted into the Hall of Honor at Ada High School. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Ada High School. He was a member of the Maysville United Methodist Church. 

He is survived by two sons: R. Michael (Joyce) Hubbell of Ada and J. Alan Hubbell of West Valley City, UT; a daughter, Patricia A. (David) Devier of White Pigeon, MI; four grandchildren: Nicholas (Sunni) Hubbell of Findlay, Jessica M. (Michael) Ring of Sykesville, MD, Britton H. (Brittany Haas) Devier of Willard and Jaime A. Hubbell of New Orleans, LA; a great granddaughter, Olivia E. Hubbell and a great grandson, William R. Hubbell of Findlay. 

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Esther Huber, Edna Koch and Elsie Tressel. 

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Charles Fuerstenau officiating. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery, Ada with graveside military services conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard. 

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Maysville United Methodist Church and/or Ada High School Alumni Scholarship Fund 725 West North Street, Ada, Ohio 45810.
