Ada's business changes

Businesses come and businesses go in a small town

By Monty Siekerman
Businesses come and go in small towns and large cities, as well. Here's a review of some Main Street changes in Ada this summer.

All that remains of presence of The Ada Herald in town is a weathered sign still hanging above 229 N. Main. The space has been for rent since the weekly newspaper moved its operations to another town.

The paper reported, "The decision to do so (close the local office) was born of economic necessity, came down to the choice of closing the office or eliminating The Ada Herald in its entirely."

Dr. L.E. Hubbell and Dr. Todd Gillfillan moved their practices to the old KFC building next to the grocery. The former restaurant, which remained empty for several years, saw a major facelift with interior and exterior improvements before Family Chiropractic Center opened.

The former Family Chiropractic Center at 108 N. Main is now for lease.

You can't get a sundae or coney in Ada this summer since the town's only dairy bar is closed. Ice cream in a dish can be found at several restaurants, including Viva Maria Pizza and Pasta, or a small cone at McDonald's, but no evening drive to a walk-up window for your favorite flavor of ice cream to be eaten at a picnic table by the  highway.
