Job fair response at the library indicates full employment here

By Monty Siekerman
Most everyone in Ada who wants a job must have one because only three people attended the three-hour jobs fair at the Ada Public Library on Thursday afternoon.

In comparison, about 40 people showed up in the first half hour at a similar jobs fair in Kenton, according to representatives from Jobs and Family Services, who sponsored the fair at the library.

The Village of Ada, The Inn, Adecco, ONU grounds department, and Vancrest of Ada all had representatives at the Ada jobs fair seeking employees. One sees many Help Wanted signs around town, especially at McDonalds and Dollar General, but they did not attend.

The Village of Ada has an opening in the street department.

The Inn has an opening for a cook.

ATI hires through Adecco. The local auto parts company has an opening for an entry level machine operator. ATI will train the person who is hired. ATI recently increased the wage for new starts to $12.25 an hour.

The ONU grounds department, through Sodexo, is looking for a custodian.

Vancrest has a full time opening in housekeeping. Vancrest will train people wanting to be a Resident Assistant. The nursing home is always looking for RN, LPN, and STNAs.

In most cases, the employers will accept job applications for all positions, then call those most likely to succeed when an opening occurs. Nowadays, people can apply for work online, either at the company’s website and/or Facebook page.
