McVey national athlete of the week

Former All-American and current senior cross country standout Ian McVey was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week honoree.

McVey claimed the NCAA Division III Men's Athlete of the Week recognition for the second week of competition during the 2018 season. He would be listed among 10 student-athletes representing institutions at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels and the two divisions of the NJCAA.

The senior is the first student-athlete in Ohio Northern school history to ever receive a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week accolade in cross country.

McVey raced to a third-place finish out of 302 total competitors at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational on Saturday, September 8, crossing the line first for Northern in his 12th successive race dating back to the 2016 season. His time of 25:06.30 guided the Polar Bears to an 11th-place finish in the team standings out of 23 competing schools and marked the fastest time among runners from NCAA Division III institutions.

Ohio Northern will return to the course on Saturday, September 15 when they travel to Shelbyville, Indiana for the Pre-Regional Meet. Race time is set for 4 p.m.
