Milo Lyman "Mike" King 1931 - 2017

Milo Lyman “Mike” King, age 86, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 4:06 p.m. at his residence in Alger.

          He was born on July 4, 1931 in West Newton, Auglaize County, Ohio to Harold and Retta (Shaw) King who preceded him in death.  On November 1, 1953 Milo married Martha Klingler and they were married for 63 years.  Martha survives in Alger.

          Milo was a graduate of Harrod High School in 1949.  He served in the U.S. Army for two years and six years in the reserve, during the Korean War.  Milo was honorable discharged in June 1953. 

David L. Ernest 1946-2017

David L. Ernest, 71, died Aug. 19, 2017, at the Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida.  David was born Feb. 22, 1946, in Findlay to the late Delmer and Juanita (Gearing) Ernest. On Feb. 25, 1967 he married Nancy Cupples Ernest and she survives.

Season Preview: Men's Cross Country looks to compete on national level

The Ohio Northern men's cross country team will look to build on its success from last season and compete on a national scale once again in 2017 under 9th-year head coach Jason Maus.

Northern is coming off a historical season where it finished 14th at the NCAA III Championships, the second best finish for the team in school history.

The Polar Bears have claimed 100 or more victories in each of the last six seasons.

Northern welcomes back five letterwinners, all of which were named All-OAC in 2016.

ONU prof has art on display in Maumee

Prof. William Mancuso, assistant professor of art at ONU, has several watercolor paintings on display at the American Frame showroom in Maumee.

The show, called “Blanchard Valley Plein Air Painters,” is a group exhibition. The artists began as a volunteer-led program for the Hancock County Parks in 2013. The goal was to provide opportunities for artists to meet and paint in various park locations and to expand awareness and appreciation of plein air painting.

The work in the show display paintings in all media, but predominately oil, watercolor and pastel.

Volleyball looks to repeat as OAC champions

The Ohio Northern volleyball team will look to defend it Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2017 under the guidance of 27th-year head coach Kate Witte.

The Polar Bears finished the 2016 season 27-4 overall, including a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.

Witte and her staff welcome back 11 letterwinners in 2017 and six newcomers.

Ada soccer wins opener

MILLER CITY - The visiting Ada boys soccer team shut out Miller City 3-0 in their first match of the season Monday evening.

Logan Williams netted two goals while Johnathan Rettig added the other goal for the victorious Bulldogs.

Ace Gamble made eight saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Ada (1-0) plays at county rival Kenton Wednesday, August 23. The JV match kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7 p.m.
