$750,000 storm sewer project

ONU and village paying for this work

Photos and story by Monty Siekerman
The $750,000 storm sewer project, mostly on campus, is due to be completed within a month. On Monday, a crane lifted a 10-ton section of a control structure (pictured) into a deep hole between a retention pond and Fraternity Circle.

Another 10-ton cement structure will sit atop this one. The structures are controlled by gravity to determine the water level in the retention pond.
The far West Campus area has been plagued by flooding for several years.

Bulldog Cards on sale

An Ada Music Booster project

The always-popular sale of the Ada Bulldog Cards by students of the Ada School Music Department is in progress. This year’s version of the discount card offers free food and other money-saving offers for Ada, Kenton, Bluffton and Lima area restaurants and businesses.

The 2017-2018 Bulldog cards are good immediately, can be used repeatedly, and do not expire until 8/31/2018. Bulldog cards can be purchased individually for $10 each.  The cost is able to be recouped after just a few uses.

The Bulldog Card is a major annual fundraiser of the Ada Music Boosters.

There are four ways to purchase:

1968 Ada High School Latin Club

Let's see how well you remember your Latin. Try translating this: "Labor omnia vincit." It means: "Work conquers everthing." That's the phrase above this photo, which the Icon cropped out.

This is the Ada High School Latin Club from the 1967-68 school year. Names of the members are under the photo.

MATH ONE

Does this belong to a math teacher, accountant, or just someone who loves to count? The Icon spotted this plate in Ada on a silver Cadillac.

Icon dog of the week - Sammy

Meet Sammy. Sammy is a  4 year old neutered male shepherd mix. He weighs 47 pounds.  No kids, please. Can you give Sammy a forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.
