Dog tag deadline: Jan 31

The dog shelter will be open extended hours so people can buy dog tags before the Jan. 31 deadline.

The shelter, on Jones Road west of Kenton, will be open until 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week.

Tags cost $16. Beginning Feb. 1 tags will cost $32 and/or a citation can be issued, according to Tammy Ervin, dog warden.

All the jazz in Presser Hall Thursday at 8 p.m.

Gene Parker, on the jazz faculty at ONU jazz player in Toledo has been making his efforts to spread jazz to ONU.

At 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, in Presser Hall, he performs with his son Ray Parker, Nitzan Gavrieli and Anthony Pinciotti from New York City. This is free and open to the public.

Ada students collecting Pennies for Patients

Local goal $2,000 for leukemia and lymphoma research

Ada School students will be collecting Pennies for Patients for the next three weeks with a goal of raising $2,000 for leukemia and lymphoma research and patience assistance.

Speaking at a kickoff assembly on Monday, Julie Thaxton, (pictured), junior high math teacher and Beta Club advisor, encouraged junior high students to raise funds for the project. The Beta Club, an honor society, is heading up the project.

Last year 1,300 schools in the area raised nearly $500,000. It was noted that those diagnosed in the 1960s had a 10 percent chance of living, when today the odds are 95 percent, so research is important.

ONU artist has three works in Columbus show

Emily Jay's work selected for ImageOHIO 17

Emily Jay, an Ohio Northern adjunct professor in art, recently had three works selected for ImageOHIO 17.

The exhibited opened last week and runs through Feb. 24, at the Fort Hayes Shot Tower Gallery located in Columbus. An artist reception and panel discussion is scheduled for this coming Friday at 1p.m.

ImageOHIO 17 is a juried exhibition of the best photographic, video, and new media art. Juror Drew Sawyer selected the exhibiting artists. He is an associate curator of photography at the Columbus Museum of Art, as well as the arts editor at Document Journal.
