Sunday candlelight vigil focuses on presidential transition

Local version of National Day of Action by Allen-Hardin voters

Allen-Hardin County Day of Action organization will hold a candlelight vigil in Bluffton on Sunday, Jan. 15, to voice quesitons in the transition period from the Nov. 8 election day to the presidential inauguration on Jan. 21.

Persons interested in participanting will meet at the Bluffton post office, 132 S. Main St. After a brief sharing time, the group will walk to Bluffton’s town hall, 154 N. Main St.

According to event planners, "The purpose of this gathering is to voice questions that have risen in the transition period from election day to the inauguration Jan. 21.

Bonnie Hoy 1944 - 2017

Bonnie A. Hoy, age 72, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 6:15 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton, Ohio. 

She was born on March 24, 1944 in Hardin County, Ohio to Sherman W. and Anna Belle (Hibner) Merriman who preceded her in death. 

On February 27, 1965 Bonnie married Lowell L. Hoy and he died on January 14, 2014. 

Commodores run away late from Bulldog boys

CRIDERSVILLE - Host Perry pulled away late from the Ada boys basketball team to post a 78-46 victory Tuesday night in a non-league makeup battle.

After suffering their fourth road defeat in eight days, the Bulldog cagers dropped to 2-7. Meanwhile, Perry improved to 7-3 with the win.

Seniors Owen Conley and Jordan Bailey contributed 15 points apiece for Ada.

The Bulldogs are now 1-4 on the road this season, with their lone road win coming at county foe Ridgemont in the opener.

3rd District Court of Appeals to hear oral arguments at ONU College of Law

ADA —The Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases at Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law at 10 a.m. on Jan. 18 in the large Moot Court Room.

The oral arguments will be held before a three-judge panel consisting of Judges Stephen R. Shaw, Vernon L. Preston and John R. Willamowski. The court’s fourth judge is Richard M. Rogers. Rogers, Shaw and Willamowski are all Ohio Northern University law alumni. 

Carol Newland 1949-2017

Carol A. Newland, age 67, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 3:50 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System. 

She was born on February 5, 1949 in Knott County, Kentucky to Robert and Gladys (Smith) Mosley who preceded her in death. On December 29, 1967 Carol married Russell E. Newland and he survives in Harrod. 

Carol was a homemaker. She was a member of the Alger Assembly of God Church and a life member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Ladies Auxiliary. 

Grade cards released Friday

Ada school grade cards will be sent home on Friday, Jan. 13, according to Ada schools.
