ONU’s Williams sets school record for 100-yard rushing games

Junior All-American Christiaan Williams (Sidney/Anna) had a record-setting afternoon, but Ohio Northern fell 44-10 at No. 13-ranked John Carroll on Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

Williams ran 25 times for 127 yards for the Polar Bears (3-3 overall, 3-2 Ohio Athletic Conference).

Williams' 127-yard effort breaks the school record for 100-yard rushing games, giving Williams his 21st such game in just his 25th career contest. He breaks the previous record of 20, set by All-American and NFL standout Jamal Robertson from 1997-2000.

"I'm very happy for Christiaan," ONU head coach Dean Paul said. "He's been a warrior for us his entire career and has worked very hard to come back after missing last season with an injury. He is very deserving of this record."

The Blue Streaks (5-1, 4-1) were led by Jake Floriea, who completed 11-of-15 passes for 289 yards and five touchdowns.

Senior Anthony McFadden (Chillicothe/Paint Valley) completed 25-of-25 passes for 124 yards and a score.

Ohio Northern marched 49 yards in 10 plays and scored on a 36-yard field goal by sophomore Dom DiFalco (Murraysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) to get ONU within 16-3 with 7:42 to play in the first half.

But John Carroll would score the game's next four touchdowns to put the game away.

McFadden hit sophomore Austin Eick (Rossford) for a 15-yard TD with eight seconds left to wrap up the scoring.

Senior David Haseleu (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) led the ONU defense with 10 tackles.

"Today was a disappointing performance by our football team," Paul said. "John Carroll is a very good team, but we had way too many mistakes. Dropped passes, bad snaps, turnovers, dumb penalties, blown coverages, missed blocks - they were all costly. You are not going to beat a team of John Carroll's caliber with so many of those mistakes."

John Carroll out-gained Ohio Northern 443-225 in total offense.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday with a home contest against Capital at 1:30 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
