Two ONU teams move up in national polls

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Polar Bears are also receiving votes in the D3soccer.com top 25. 

Messiah (Pa.) claimed the top spot in the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week, while William Smith (N.Y.) and Washington (Mo.) rounded out the top three. Ohio Athletic Conference member Otterbein was ranked No. 17. 

Northern — which boasts a 13-2-2 overall record and is riding a nine-game win streak — travels to Otterbein Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest at Memorial Stadium.   

Volleyball

 The Ohio Northern volleyball team moved into the top 10 at No. 10 in the ninth weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll on Tuesday. 

The Polar Bears (22-4 overall, 7-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 1,176 points, 41 more than in the eighth weekly poll when ONU was ranked No. 10.

Ohio Northern was ranked No. 11 for three consecutive weeks in the sixth, seventh and eighth weekly polls.

Northern was ranked No. 12 in the fifth weekly poll, No. 15 in the fourth poll, No. 16 in the third poll, was No. 21 in the first and second polls and No. 23 in the preseason poll.

Chicago (Ill.) remained in first place this week with 1,946 points and 75 first place votes. Emory (Ga.) moved to second with 1,853 points and one first place vote and Carthage (Wis.) moved up to third with 1,720 points.
