15 minutes with Logan Conrad

January Ada HS Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative student of the month

Logan Conrad, senior, is the January Ada HS Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative student of the month. The Icon took this opportunity to sit down with him and have a 15-minute interview, which follows:

Icon: How many years have you attended Ada?
Logan: I started here as a freshman.

Icon: What’s your class schedule?
Logan: Psychology/Sociology, economics, physics, study hall, CAD II, AP English 12, calculus, study hall.

Icon: What are your plans after graduation?
Logan:
I hope to be accepted into the Air Force Academy. I’ve been nominated. I want to get into aerospace engineering and eventually become a pilot.

Icon: You’ve attended a previous flight camp, right?
Logan:
Yes, I attended an aviation camp at the Air Force Academy. I flew in the pilot’s seat with a trainer in a Cessna. It was over the mountains and was awesome.

Icon: What organizations do you participate in at school?
Logan:
I was the football captain and I’ve played tennis two seasons. I’m in student council, Aspirations, National Honor Society, Language Club, Film Club, and am a ‘Dogs volunteer, which is a student helper. I’m also a charter member of the Lettuce Club (laughs). You’ll have to ask me about that.

Icon: A charter member! Tell us about your activities outside the classroom.
Logan:
For the past three years I’ve been in Civil Air Patrol. I’ve also helped with Harrod Community VBS.

Icon: Do you have an all-time favorite movie?
Logan:
Star Wars VIII. I like Star Wars; I have all my life.

Icon: Are you a buyer or packer? And, who are the regulars at lunch?
Logan:
I’m buyer. Love Taco Tuesdays, usually with lettuce and cheese. The table usually includes Kyle Zimmerly (packer), Holden Purdy (buyer), Zac Swaney (packer and buyer), Jacob Rayl (buyer), Tyson Moore (buyer) and Landon Blankenship (buyer).

Icon: Tell us all about your first-ever car.
Logan:
It was a 1996 Buick LaSabre. Called it Bertha. It was red, had over 100,000 miles and before I drove it my sister and brother both drove it. Now I have a silver 2017 Ford Focus. I call it Sophia.

Icon: Tell us one thing about you that might surprise your friends. Something they don’t know about you.
Logan:
(long pause).  I don’t think anyone knows that I’m a avid Lego set collector. I have an entire Lego room!

(We checked with Logan’s friends and he was correct. No one knew it.)

Icon: Okay, give us the short version of the Lettuce Club.
Logan:
Some friends and I were sitting around one day. The question came up: “Wonder how long it would take to eat an entire head of lettuce?” You know what, it takes longer than you think. I won, and it took me 10 minutes and 22 seconds. Katie Butterfield is club’s vice president and Tyson Shutler of Bluffton High School is the treasurer.

Icon: Wow! That’s incredible. Well, it’s been fun talking with you and good luck for the rest of the school year.
