2019 weather in a word: Rain

2019 weather summary chart at bottom of story -
How will 2019 be remembered weather-wise?

In one word: Rain.

From April 1 to July 31 the area experienced 23.83 inches of rain. Those four months accounted for more than one-half of the entire year’s rainfall, which reached 44.23 inches.

The 2019 rainfall was the highest recorded in the area since 54.86 inches fell in 2011.

The 23.83 inches of rain during that four-month period compares to normal average of 15.43 inches during that same period.

So, 2019 experienced 8.4 inches extra inches of rain from early April to the end of July. That consistent rainfall kept area farmers out of their fields for periods long enough that many fields were never planted.

Record-wise the coldest day of 2019 was minus 12 on Jan. 21. The previous low record was minus 19 in 2014.

The warmest was 93 on July 2. The average 2019 temperature was 51.2 degrees, slightly higher that the 70-year average reading of 50.1 degrees for this area.

The accompanying chart shows 2019 weather by the month and yearly summaries since 2016.
