Men 2nd, women 4th at OAC elite meet

The No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team finished second of 10 teams with 148 points at the OAC Elite Meet on Saturday at Otterbein and Capital.

The ONU women finished fourth - their results follow the men's story

The Polar Bears (15-3 overall) got a pair of victories from junior Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph), who won the 200-meter dash in :22.47 and was on the winning 4x200 relay team.

Northern opened the meet by winning the 4x200 relay as sophomore Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding), Dean, sophomore Branden Kudlubowski (Fremont/St. Joseph) and sophomore Brandon Berry (Wickliffe) finished in 1:32.93.

Dean and Berry each placed in the 60-meter dash. Dean was third in :07.04 and Berry was sixth in a career-best :07.17.

Senior Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.56 seconds, leading a 1-5-7 ONU finish in the event. Senior Colin McCullough (Galion) was fifth in 8.72 and sophomore Selorm Adehe (Grove City/Central Crossing) was seventh in :08.84.

Lloyd was also eighth in the high jump by clearing 1.86 meters.

Junior Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) won the pole vault by clearing 4.40 meters. Sophomore Brandt Marshall(Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) was fifth and junior Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) was sixth in the event with both men clearing 3.95 meters.

The distance medley relay team of senior Dylan McKean (Warren/Champion), sophomore Vini Souza(Spencerville), senior Jackson Brandstaetter (Pickerington/North) and freshman Ian Ackenhausen (Xenia/Legace Christian Academy) won in 11:00.15.

Senior Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) was second in the 800 in 1:56.11, followed by freshman Trey Myers(Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) in fifth in 2:00.48.

Freshmen Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) placed second in the shot put with a toss of 14.81 meters and was eighth in the weight throw at 15.32 meters.

Kesler was third in the 400 dash in :51.69 and was fifth in the 200 in :23.30.

Freshman Gabe Hensley (Lebanon) and McCullough placed in the long jump as Hensley was third (6.25 meters) and McCullough was seventh (6.11 meters).

Senior Alex Sube (Wadsworth/Highland) was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.73 meters.

Sophomore Billy Driemeyer (House Springs, Mo./Lindbergh) was fourth in the 3,000 run in 8:46.09.

Junior Patrick Baker (Massillon/Jackson) was fifth in the 5,000 run in 15:25.72.

Sophomore Brooks Blakeley (Versailles) was fifth in the mile run in 4:34.19 and freshman Braden Schaser(Fostoria/Lakota) was eighth in the event in 4:38.48.

Freshman David Gross (Prospect/Pleasant Local) was sixth in the 500 1:09.92.

McCullough, Kadlubowski, freshman Tyler St. Onge (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) and Gross finished second in the 4x400 relay in 3:35.01.

In all, Ohio Northern won five of the 19 events.

No. 7-ranked Mount Union won the meet with 231 points, No. 5-ranked John Carroll was third with 109 points, Otterbein was fourth with 104 points, Heidelberg was fifth with 28, No. 18 Capital and Wilmington tied for sixth with 26 points, Muskingum was eighth with 23 points, Baldwin Wallace was ninth with 16 points and Marietta was 10th with 4 points.

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Junior Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) and senior Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch) each placed in three events to lead ONU.

Silva was second in the 200-meter dash in :26.56, was third in the 60 meters in 7.94 seconds and was fifth in the long jump at 5.32 meters.

Her 60-meter time was was just .02 of a second off of her school record :07.92 set in 2019.

DeWitt was second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.68 meters, was third in the long jump with a jump of 5.49 meters and was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.42 seconds.

Sophomore Lexi Neff (Northfield/Walsh Jesuit) was third in the 1,000 run in 3:12.93.

Four Polar Bears placed in the top eight in the 5,000-meter run, led by junior Rue Whitmore (Mason) in fourth in 18:28.89. Senior Kathleen Colvin (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) was sixth in 18:34.01, junior Tessa Pitcovich(Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) was seventh in 18:39.01 and freshman Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was eighth in 19:30.85.

Sophomore Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) was fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.25 meters, while sophomore Cienna Kuhn (Elida) was seventh in the event at 3.05 meters.

Freshman Oleysa Mertz (Johnstown) was seventh in the mile run in 5:37.84 and freshman Sydnee Perram (Port Clinton/Danbury) was seventh in the high jump by clearing 1.47 meters.

Junior Megan Wright (Eaton/Twin Valley South) finished eighth in the 3,000 in 10:34.82.

No. 17 Mount Union won the meet with 204 points, No. 3-ranked John Carroll finished second with 150 points, Otterbein was third with 100 points, No. 23 Marietta finished fifth with 45 points, No. 9 Baldwin Wallace was sixth with 41 points, Heidelberg was seventh with 32 points, Wilmington was eighth with 23 points, Muskingumw as ninth with 10 points and Capital was tenth with 2 points.

The majority of the meet was held at Otterbein, with throws and the pole vault events contested at Capital.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Sunday at a tri-meet at Capital with Wilmington.
