Tar Spot: Mid to Late R-Stage Fungicide Application

July rainfall report for Hardin County

During the month of July, OSU Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 5.54 inches of rain in Hardin County. Last year, the average rainfall for July was 4.25 inches. Madelyn Lowery in Cessna Township received 6.55 inches of rain for the month, the most of any of the township sites. The least rain in July, 4.49 inches, was collected in Taylor Creek Township by Silver Creek Supply. For the growing season from April 15 through July, the average precipitation in the townships was 14.16 inches, with a range from 12.06 to 17.39 inches.  The ten-year average for growing season rainfall through July is 15.81 inches.

Drainage field day at OSU Lima campus farm rescheduled

UPDATED: Rescheduled for August 16.

The Drainage Installation Field Day scheduled for tomorrow at The Ohio State University at Lima campus farm has been moved to Tuesday, August 16, 2022, due to field conditions brought on by the recent rains in the area.

Field demonstrations by the Ohio Land Improvement Contractors of America, or OLICA, will begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, and will continue in an open-house-style format throughout the day until 3 p.m. at the field on the corner of Thayer and Reservoir roads.

Chamber calendar heats up in August and September

In addition to hosting one of its biggest events in August--the Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival on August 27--the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting the public to two events welcoming new businesses to town.

To spray or not to spray foliar products

HARDIN COUNTY–When should I spray a foliar fungicide? First, consider the disease triangle. For  a disease to develop, there must be a susceptible host (Is your soybean variety resistant or  susceptible?, a virulent pathogen (Is there a history of a certain disease in your field? Do you  see any visual symptoms of disease?), and conducive environmental conditions. Most foliar  diseases, such as brown leaf spot and frogeye leaf spot, are favored by wet conditions. 

Fruit and vegetable crop walk on August 2

Open to commercial produce growers and home gardeners

HARDIN COUNTY – Hardin County OSU Extension has planned a Fruit and Vegetable Crop Walk program on Tuesday,  August 2 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. that addresses fruit and vegetable production issues in the region.

The location of  the program will be on a produce farm at 15237 County Road 209, Kenton. It is open to all fruit  and vegetable producers, whether they are commercial or home gardeners.
