S.A.F.E.R Academy for Youth set for June 19-23

The Ada Police Department, in conjunction with the ReStore lunch program, will conduct a S.A.F.E.R. Academy for Youth this June at Ada War Memorial Park.

The event is open to children ages 5-17 (parents with young children welcome too) and is intended to provide an overview of the many different agencies involved in the public safety field.
It will be held daily from 10 a.m. until noon the week of June 19-23 prior to the ReStore lunch program.

Each day will feature different organizations and exhibits.

Chris Leeper will exhibit 34 pieces at ArtSpace/Lima

Thirty-four works in various media by Ohio artist Chris Leeper will be displayed in the Ellen Nelson Gallery of ArtSpace/Lima beginning Friday, June 9, according to Bill Sullivan.

The exhibit will  run through Saturday, July 22.  There will  be a reception for the artist on Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Leeper is a prominent Ohio painter and watercolorist and resident in Canfield.  He is a member of the adjunct faculty in the Department of Art at Youngstown State University.

Ada Baptist VBS begins June 4

Operation Arctic is the theme of the Ada Baptist Church vacation Bible school this year. VBS, for youth 4-12 years old, will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, June 4-8 at the church, 350 W. North Ave. For more information, call 419-634-8041.

July 8 Bluffton bike Ride to Remember registration underway

This year’s 3rd annual Ride to Remember bicycle event, set for Saturday, July 8, in Bluffton, takes bike riders as far they want to go – from 2 miles to a 112-mile Gran Fondo.

Riders from past year’s come from across Ohio and neighboring states.  The village has several events going on for family members not riding, while the ride is underway.

The ride supports the Bluffton Lions Foundation’s bike and pedestrian pathway project which, when competed, will encircle the entire the village of Bluffton.

Ada HS concert band performs Monday

Recognition and awards also on the program

The community is invited to the Ada High School Concert Band performance Monday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  

Features pieces include:
• The Finale from the Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky
• The Anguish of Nosferatu by Ed Kiefer
• Apollo Myth and Legend by Rob Romeyn
• Aces of the Air by Karl L. King
• Suite form Symphony Fantastique by Hector Berlioz
• Tales of Dundee by Robert Sheldon

This spring concert will also include recognition of the all band and guard students, with awards presentations for involvement in the instrumental music program.  Jonathan Lischak is the instrumental music director.

Ada Kiwanis Club Meeting Notice

The Ada Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday May 23rd at 12:00 noon in the Dean’s Heritage Room, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University.

Bruce Neely will have the club program.

Former Kiwanian Mark Light and Hardin County 4-H director will be presenting a program on the Hardin County Spark Lab.

The goal of the Hardin County Ohio Spark Lab is to instill that inspiration or “spark” that youth and adults need to discover, learn, and grow in a creative environment.

This setting is more than just a futuristic classroom or makerspace. It is center of innovation in a rural county framed through the education lens of a land grant university system.
