Mom and Dad mourning doves in the "nursery"

Be very, very quiet.

Mom and Dad are keeping the babies warm in the "nursery."

Why are they called mourning doves? Because their song is sorrowful. The bird (Zenaidura macroura) is the most common dove found in North America. It is, in fact, a small pigeon.  (Photo by Ken Collins)

Cousins named OAC Academic All-Ohio in lacrosse

ONU junior Chelsea Cousins (Lewis Center/Olentangy) has been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for women's lacrosse in 2017.

Cousins, a Civil Engineering major, earned the honor for the second consecutive season.

She started in 15 games for the Polar Bears this season.

Cousins ranked fourth on the team with 28 grounds balls and was third on the team with 18 caused turnovers.

Women's soccer excels in classroom

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team continued its trend of success in the classroom during the 2017 Spring semester.

The Polar Bears posted the highest-ever cumulative grade point average in team history during the Spring semester.

The team posted a GPA of 3.58, while 20 student-athletes had above a 3.0 GPA.

A total of 14 student-athletes were recognized on the 2017 spring Dean's List.

"We are very proud of the girls for their year long academic performance," said head coach Mark Batman. "They have been tremendous all year about balance and we are excited to see them continue their successful ways."

Zumba, AquaZumba offered in Kenton

Zumba and AquaZumba classes for those 12 years old and older will be held this summer in Kenton, according to the Ohio State University Extension of Hardin County and Hardin County Wellness.

Zumba Fitness classes will be held at Simon Kenton School  gymnasium, 705 N. Ida St, from 4:50-5:45 p.m. on June 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28; July 10, 12, 17,19, 24, 26, 31; August  7, 9, 14, 21, 23, 28, 30. Cost is $25 for all classes.

AquaZumba meets from  7-7:45 p.m. at the Kenton City Pool, 9 Hillcrest Lane, on June 20, 22, 27, 29; July  18, 20, 27;  August  10, 17. Cost is $15.

Junior Matt Molinaro qualifies for 800-meter run finals at 2017 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track & Field Championships

GENEVA — Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) posted a solid performance and advanced to Saturday's 800-meter run finals during Day 2 of the 2017 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Molinaro finished first in his heat and posted the fastest time overall in 1:50.22 in the event.

"I really wanted to get after it today," said Molinaro. "I wasn't really sure where I was at because there wasn't really a clock anywhere so I just wanted to go for the win. I'm happy with where I'm at and I'm really looking forward to the finals tomorrow."

Richards races into finals of National Outdoor Track & Field Championships

GENEVA — Junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) raced into the 800-meter run finals on the second day of the 2017 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Fridayafternoon at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Richards finished first in her heat and posted the fastest time overall in 2:08.59 to advance to the finals on Saturday

."Today was pretty similar to yesterday," said Richards. "I got out a little hard again but it ended up being fine. We just wanted to make sure we made it to the finals tomorrow and I did what I needed to do get there. I feel really good heading into both events tomorrow and I'm excited."
