ONU President and First Lady featured in an article

Ohio Northern University President Daniel A. DiBiasio and First Lady Chris Burns-DiBiasio are featured in an Inside Higher Ed article on a new study from University of Minnesota researchers, which examines the role of the presidential spouse or partner at a time when it is becoming increasingly complex and challenging. The survey finds a quarter of presidents have made decisions on taking or turning down jobs based on spouses' expected role.

Alger grant meeting Jan. 18

There is the possibility of a $500,000 grant for the Village of Alger. The county regional planning office and village officials want your input.

There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the village hall, 207 Angle St. to discuss possible infrastructure projects, such as:
 • Parks and playground equipment
• Sidewalks
• Storm sewers
• Water hydrants
• Roads, curbs and gutters
• or other infrastructure projects.

A survey was taken in Alger last fall which determined that Alger qualified for a grant up to $500,000 since most residents report low to moderate incomes.

The sale of the $16 dog tags ends January 31.

The sale of the $16 dog tags ends January 31. They can be purchased at Liberty National Bank downtown, Ada Animal Hospital on SR 235 south of town, or at Metz Pets on SR 309 west of Ada.

After Jan. 31, tags will cost will be $32 and a possible citation.

Tags may be purchased at the dog shelter on Jones Road west of Kenton. For hours call 419-674-2209. Tammy Ervin is chief dog warden.

Hurless all-time ONU career assist leader

ADA — Senior Joey Hurless (Van Wert) became Ohio Northern's all-time career assist leader on Wednesdaynight, leading the ONU men's basketball team to an 86-77 victory over visiting Baldwin Wallace at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (7-7 overall, 5-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) stayed in a tie for first place in the OAC with the win.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 7-7, 2-5.

Hurless had seven assists in the game and now has 418 in his 90-game career. He passed the previous record of 414, held for 40 years by Charlie Just, who accomplished the feat from 1973-76.

Women’s basketball: Baldwin Wallace fall to ONU

BEREA — Senior Britt Lauck (Lima/Shawnee) scored 22 points and junior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) added 14 points to lead the No. 10/14 ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 60-55 road victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears continue their best start in school history and remain undefeated at 14-0 on the season. They maintain their 2-game lead in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 7-0 league record.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 11-3, 4-3.

Northern led 14-7 after the first period and grabbed the largest lead of the game at 21-11 with 7:35 left in the half.

ONU football team opens 2017 season at Adrian

ADA — The Ohio Northern football team will open its 122nd year of competition on Sept. 2 with a road contest at Adrian (Mich.) under 14th-year head coach Dean Paul.

After scrimmaging each season for the past 23 years, the Polar Bears and the Bulldogs will compete for the first time in a varsity contest since 1989.

Northern will then return home for its home opener with Heidelberg on Sept. 16 at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

ONU will then entertain Otterbein on Sept. 23 as part of Homecoming Weekend.

The Polar Bears will also host Capital on Oct. 7, Marietta on Oct. 28 and Baldwin Wallace on Nov. 11 to wrap up the regular season on Senior Day.
