ONU women's basketball team decked out in pink

It's all about Hoops for Hope

The highly-ranked, undefeated women's basketball team at ONU not only scores big time, but also gives back to the community by supporting fundraisers for breast cancer and cystic fibrosis (and garner a 3.4 GPA along the way).

Saturday's game saw their efforts in helping breast cancer project Hoops for Hope.  And, the team was decked out in pink while playing.

Junior Emily Richards named Women's OAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for second consecutive week

ADA — Junior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) has been named the Women's Indoor Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 23-28.

The junior led the Polar Bears (16-6 overall) at Grand Valley State (Mich.) Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Richards broke a school record for the second consecutive week as she broke her own school record in the 800-meter run and won the race in 2:09.46.

Her time in the event currently ranks first nationally and was the 10th fastest time in Division III history in the event. 

Senior Lucas Shumate named Men's Indoor OAC Field Athlete of the Week

ADA — Senior Lucas Shumate  (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) garnered his first Men's Indoor Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season for the week of Jan. 23-28.

Shumate led the men's track & field team Saturday afternoon as they competed at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Invitational.

The senior broke his own previous school record from 2015 in the weight throw with a toss of 59' 5.00".

His throw currently ranks fourth best in the nation.

The Polar Bears return to the track Saturday, as they host the annual Joe Banks Invitational with field events set to begin at 11 am.

Bingo to resume in Ada Thursday February 2nd

The Ada Music Boosters have been granted a bingo license by the state of Ohio with Ada Bingo scheduled to resume every Thursday evening beginning Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 111 Central Avenue, the former N-Men’s building. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.  As always pizza, snacks and games of chance will be available throughout the evening with Bingo games beginning at 7 p.m.  The Ada Lions Club will continue to host Bingo the 3rd week of the month with the Ada Fire Department hosting every 5th Thursday.  

Ada swimmers fare well at league meet

BUCYRUS - The Ada boys swim team finished third at the 10-team North Central Ohio Conference league swim meet hosted by Colonel Crawford Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs finished a solid fourth out of 12 teams with 123 points, while the Ada boys tallied 237 points.

Upper Sandusky won the boys team title while Colonel Crawford captured first in the girls team standings.

Freshman Klava Katayama won the 500 and 100 freestyle events to pace Ada. The Bulldog boys 400 freestyle relay quartet also took first.
