Dear readers,

Linked below are 22 articles of lasting interest from among the 119 news items posted on AdaIcon.com during December 2025, selected for the print Ada Icon Highlights, which are distributed for in-house reading at the Ada Public Library, Beatitudes, Heterick Library at Ohio Northern University and Vancrest of Ada.

Included are obituaries for attorney Charles Van Dyne and former ONU president Kendall Baker, a 70th wedding anniversary announcement (more please!), and a partial changing of the guard on the Ada Council and Ada School Board, as several long-serving elected officials finished their terms.

Here come Christmas and 2026! The Bluffton and Ada Icons will take a little break–and I hope you can, too. The Icons are updated daily–almost every day. But as the saying goes, “All work and no play makes Paula a dull editor.” Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, the Icons will be in holiday mode, with new content limited to breaking news, including sports.

Happy Monday, Ada! Here are AdaIcon.com's top stories from the week that was, December 15-21. For a chronological look at all Icon content, visit AdaIcon.com/archive

Words of the day
Semiquincentennial and Bisesquicentennial. A.k.a. 250 years. The United States will be celebrating its Semiquincentennial in 2026. Most event organizers are using the shorthand “America 250.” I learned these vocabulary-builders at America 250-Ohio.
