June 1918 a fire destroyed the entire east half block of South Main Street bounded by East Lincoln and alleys.

John F. Tafe 1950-2017

John F. Tafe, age 66, died on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 9:45am at his residence surrounded by his family.

          He was born on November 7, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island to John F. and Mary C. (Coughlin) Tafe II who preceded him in death. On June 10, 1972 John married Sue C. Hilton and she survives in Ada.

          John was a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran who served from 1969 to 1989. After he retired from the Air Force John worked for Proctor & Gamble of Lima, he retired after working 20 years. He loved camping and doing woodworking. He was an avid gun enthusiast. John loved his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Interclass winners from 20 competitions ago

The Icon recently posted a photo of the 2017 Ada High School Interclass Competition winners.

Here are the winners from the 1996-97 competition. Each is a senior and each won their respctive category: Jake Lehman, Lindy Crouse, Anneka Lenssen and Tina Lobenhofer.

Icon Dog of the Week- Looking for his forever home

This is Harley. He's looking for his forever home. Harley is an 8 year old male lab mix. He weighs 80 pounds.

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.
Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

Mendez to discuss torture in US and world

Globally recognized human rights expert Juan E. Mendez will discuss “The status of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment in the United States and world today” at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 31 in the business college. The talk is free and open to the public.

A native of Argentina, Mendez was recently named by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ITCJ) as a delegate to the Colombian Selection Committee.
