Red Cross responds to fire in McGuffey

The American Red Cross responded to a fire on Pamela Street in McGuffey late Wednesday night.

The Red Cross provided assistance for immediate needs such as food and clothing to those affected.

“We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire,” said Todd James, executive director of the North Central Ohio Chapter. “As we continue to help them, we urge everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.”

Community Improvement Corp. elects officers on Wednesday

Ada’s Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) will elect officers for 2018 at its first quarterly meeting of the year.

The meeting, at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 17, is in the Dean’s Heritage Room in McIntosh Center on the ONU campus.

This year’s officer’s slate includes Jamie Hall, president, Brandt Miller, vice president, Eileen Peterman, secretary and Angela Polachek, treasurer. They are the current officers.

According to Peterman, other agenda items include a review of members, and a 2018 budget.

As the NFL playoffs continue, Ada will again have its own Super Bowl extravaganza.
 
The second annual “Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival” on Saturday, Feb. 3, will celebrate the village of Ada’s connection to the biggest football game of the year. Ada’s Wilson Sporting Goods factory makes the footballs used in the Super Bowl, and the day’s events will again capture that theme, leading up to a “football drop” at midnight on the cusp of Super Bowl Sunday.

House fire on Township Road 82 near Forest

Red Cross responding to family's needs

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter responded to a fire on Township Highway 82 near Forest late Saturday night.

The Red Cross provided assistance to the home’s resident for immediate needs, including temporary shelter, food and clothing.

"We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire,” said Todd James, Executive Director, North Central Ohio Chapter.

“As we continue to help them, we urge everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.”

No other details are available as fo Sunday afternoon.

 

Apollo Adult Education offering self-defense class for women

Tuesday evenings from Jan. 16 to Feb. 13

Apollo Career Center Adult Education will offer a one night a week self- defense class for women this winter. The class will be held every Tuesday night from 6-9 p.m., beginning  Tuesday, Jan. 16,  and ending Feb. 13,  and will be instructed of Sean Neidemire, detective, Lima Police Department

During this class, women will learn basic self-defense skills and techniques they can employ in an attack. Students will have improved awareness to avoid dangerous situations as well as the knowledge and skills to defend themselves against an attacker in various situations by the end of the class.
