Women’s volleyball loses

BLUFFTON -- The No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team opened play at the Bluffton Spiketacular on Friday night with a 25-22, 25-16, 29-27 loss to No. 23 Thomas More (Ky.) in a battle of nationally ranked programs at the Sommer Center.

The Polar Bears are now 4-2 on the season with both losses coming to the Saints (6-0).

Preview of ONU vs Bluffton in volleyball

The No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team will make the short 13-mile trek to area-rival Bluffton this weekend for the Bluffton Spiketacular at the Sommer Center.

The Polar Bears will open the tournament Friday night at 7 pm against #23 Thomas More (Ky.) looking to avenge a season-opening 3-2 setback at the 40th Annual ONU Invitational last Friday ... ONU will then face DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday at Noon before concluding the tournament against tournament host Bluffton at 2 pm.

Ada golfers shoot well in NWC quad

BLUFFTON - The Ada boys golf team scored well in a tough four-team Northwest Conference match Wednesday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Hot-shooting Lincolnview won the event with just 160 strokes. Bluffton tallied 176, followed by Delphos Jefferson (200) and Ada, who shot well (203) but finished fourth.

Ethan Hull paced the Bulldogs with a score of 49. Teammates Alex Morgan and Brevin Sizemore each carded a 51. Rob Allison followed closely with a total of 52.

Ada freshman Dexter Woods sank a hole in one in the JV match on hole nine.

Women’s tennis wins 9-0 and 9-0

DEFIANCE — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2018-19 season with 9-0 sweeps of Defiance and Concordia (Mich.) in a tri-match on Wednesday afternoon at Defiance's Dix Tennis Facility.

The Polar Bears move to 2-0 on the season, while the host Yellow Jackets fall to 1-1 and the Cardinals fall to 0-1.

Senior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and freshman Olivia Schrager (Dayton/Miami Valley) each won at No. 1 singles to lead ONU.

Schrager also added a singles win at No. 2 and the pair each went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles on the day.

Volleyball wins, Bluffton next

The No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team swept Denison 25-14, 25-13, 25-9 on Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

 

The Polar Bears (4-1 overall) had six runs of at least five consecutive points to dominate the Big Red (1-3).

The Polar Bears will have a quick turnaround with just one day off before playing three matches at the Bluffton Spiketacular Friday and Saturday.
