Reed and Richards lead Women's Outdoor Track & Field at Gregory Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Sophomore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) and junior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) led the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team as it wrapped its regular season up at the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College.

No team scores were kept in the meet.

Reed led the way on day one for the Polar Bears as she claimed the pole vault title and broke her own school record with a leap of 13' 0.75".

The sophomore improved her national mark and solidified her spot with the second highest vault nationally.

3v3 soccer and basketball tournaments in June at BFR

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for two 3-on-3 tournaments in June.

A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is Saturday, June 10. It has three divisions including middle school, high school and adults. The tourney is double-elimination. Cost per team is $100.

A 3-on-3 soccer tournament has two sessions. The first is Saturday, June 24. The second is Saturday, July 29. It has two divisions including high school and adults. Cost per team is $80.

Junior Zack Goodchild named PING All-Great Lakes Region in Men's Golf for 2016-17

ADA — Junior Zach Goodchild (Pickerington/North) was named PING All-Great Lakes Region in men's golf for 2016-17 by the National Golf Coaches Association.

Goodchild led the Polar Bears in scoring this season, averaging 74.4 strokes per round for 18 rounds.

In 56.5 career rounds, Goodchild has an impressive 76.46 average.

He is also an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.

The Polar Bears posted a 49-33-1 overall record and were fourth at the OAC Championships tournament under fourth-year head coach Chad Bucci.

David Hayman, Tim Kargl named All-OAC in Men's Tennis

ADA — Ohio Northern sophomores David Hayman (Westerville/South) and Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men's tennis for 2016-17 in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Hayman was a Second Team selection and Kargl was an Honorable Mention honoree.

Hayman led the Polar Bears with a 17-6 singles record, playing primarily at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.

He was also one of three ONU players with 12 doubles wins and led the team with an overall record of 29-15.

Hayman has 25 singles wins, 22 doubles wins and 42 overall victories in his two seasons at Ohio Northern.

Taylor Ramey will play golf at Bluffton University

Taylor Ramey, Ada High School senior, will  continue her athletic and academic career at Bluffton University in the fall.

Taylor is the first Ada HS female golfer to play the sport in college.

Kelly, Ochsenhirt, Corbean named All-OAC in Women's Tennis for 2016-17

ADA — Three members of the Ohio Northern women's tennis team were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2016-17 in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Junior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Ashley Ochsenhirt (Brimingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) were named First Team All-OAC.

Senior Christina Corbean (Dayton/Oakwood) was a Second Team All-Conference honoree.

Kelly is now a two-time All-OAC award winner as she was also a First Team All-OAC pick as a freshman in 2014-15.

This season, Kelly went 5-2 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while battling a series of nagging injuries.
