Sweetest Day options at downtown Ada businesses

Hilary Dalton displays a three-quarters length blouse with a fleece vest from Reichert’s, a gift perfect for Sweetest Day on Saturday. 

The local clothing store carries popular brands such as Under Armour, Sketchers, Holloway, Red Wing, Alfred Dunner, Lee and more, many items at sale prices.

The store is located at 111-113 S. Main, phone 419-634-2881.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce says, “Come downtown and celebrate Sweetest Day. Visit our shops and enjoy a special sweet treat.”

Recap of first-ever Vancrest Halloween-themed fun run, 5K

Participants in Vancrest first-ever fun run and 5K nearly froze Saturday morning, but hot chocolate and coffee made the event bearable considering the temp was about 50 degrees lower than what has been the norm this fall.

Youngsters crossing the finish line won baskets of prizes in categories for boys and girls in many age groups.

The adults in the 5K portion had a spirited run, too, with Ada Police at the entrance to Vancrest at SR 81 keeping everyone safe.

Ohio Ghost Gals tell their story at the library

What equipment does it take to root out a ghost, discover an apparition, find an ethereal being? Stacy Perkins can tell you. She spoke at the Ada Public Library on Saturday morning, telling of paranormal finds that she and three other Ghost Gals from Lima have discovered the past six years.

To search out paranormal activity one needs a Boo Bear, a stuffed animal that reads room temperature and movement as well as talks, trying to get the ghost to talk back. Put a recorder by Boo Bear’s feet and you’ve capture what the ghost says. 

John Carroll beats ONU in soccer, too

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Ohio Northern men's soccer program dropped a highly-competitive 2-1 match to Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll on the road Saturday evening at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights.

 

With the loss, the Polar Bears move to 10-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in league action this season. Meanwhile, John Carroll improves to 8-4-1 and 4-1-0 in conference play to climb past Northern in the league table.

Lady Bulldog kickers tie Mustangs

ADA - The host Ada girls soccer team tied backyard rival Allen East 1-1 in the Northwest Conference and regular season finale on a chilly Saturday morning.

Ada finished the regular season 4-11-1 and 2-4-1 in the NWC (fifth) after the tie.

AE ended up 8-6-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the NWC with the tie, good for third in the league behind Spencerville and Bluffton.

"The game was evenly played the entire match," said Ada head coach Doug Poling.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Ada scored first when Katie Butterfield found the back of the net on a ball played initially at the goal by Julia Kamatali.
