Men's soccer picked to place 2nd in OAC

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team was picked to finish second in the conference in the Ohio Athletic Conference coaches preseason poll, voted on by the leagues 10 coaches.

Northern finished second in both the OAC regular season and tournament standings, after posting a 17-2-4 record overall and finishing 6-1-2 in the OAC.

The Polar Bears finished second in the voting with 43 points, behind 2016 OAC Regular Season and Tournament champions John Carroll, who gathered 54 points and nine first place votes, while Capital was picked to finish third with 41 points and the final first place vote.

Only the top six vote-getters were mentioned in the poll.

Women's soccer picked to win OAC

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team has been picked to finish first in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season standings, voted on by the leagues 10 coaches.

Only the top six vote-getters were mentioned in the poll.

Northern finished first in the poll with 54 points and nine first place votes, while Capital finished second in the poll with 37 points and Otterbein rounded out the top-3 with 33 points.

Northern claimed the OAC Regular Season title in 2016 before falling in the OAC Tournament Championship game.

The Polar Bears finished 15-4-0 overall in 2016 and 8-1-0 in the OAC standings.

ONU observatory open to public for solar eclipse

The Ohio Northern University observatory will be open to the public to view “The Great American Solar Eclipse” from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. The observatory is located on the west side of campus, off of Lincoln Avenue and near the baseball field.

 

“We will not experience totality in Ada, but the sun will be covered up to 85 percent,” said Jason Pinkney, Ph.D., professor of physics and astronomy and manager of the ONU observatory.

It was a great weekend in Ada as the 104th annual Farmers and Merchants Picnic took place under sunny skies.

LOTS OF PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF STORY -

A good size crowd attended festivities throughout the day. More people than usual lined Main Street for the parade, drawing many children with sacks for the candy that was tossed to them.

Hint for next year: kids at the beginning of the parade get more candy that those at the end of the parade because the candy stock hasn't run out.
