Deb Curlis replaces Matt Brown as Ada chamber president

Deb Curlis, marketing/volunteer coodinator for Community Health Professionals, was named interim director of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, this week. Matt Brown, who had held the position, resigned due to a new position he accepted working with the Duff Companies, located in Huntsville.

Curlis was nominated by the chamber board of directors and will serve through Dec. 31. Brown will remain available to assist Curlis through the end of June.

The announcement was made at the May 16 chamber meeting held in the Ada depot. It was the last meeting the chamber will hold in the depot as the chamber office will be officially closed by the end of the week.

Ada Public Library software changes underway

The Ada Public Library will be undergoing a software migration that will span the months of May and June. The library wants its patrons to be prepared as it gear up for some changes. The library has prepared a video to assist in explaining the changes underway.

Beginning Thursday, May 31​, a library card will be required to check out materials. This is a requirement as the library's software is updated.

After May 31​, patrons and library staff will not be able to place holds on library items. This is a temporary situation while the library's software is being updated.

Hardin County's snowy owl found dead

A snowy owl that drew birdwatchers to Hardin County from throughout Ohio in recent weeks was found dead yesterday morning according to a story in The Dispatch (Columbus).

The bird, whose photo was on the cover of The Dispatch earlier this month, appears to have starved to death, said a bird expert who examined the body.

Jacqueline Augustine, an assistant professor of biology at Ohio State University’s Lima campus, said she was alerted to the dead owl by birders who found it in the same general area where it has been spotted for several weeks.

It had been seen alive as recently as Saturday. 

"Titanic" discussion at public library June 5

Ada residents won't take a ride on the Titanic, but they will meet in June a discuss the maiden voyage of the ship.

The meeting is the next Ada Public Library book discussion. The discussion is at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, at the library. The book being discussed is Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember.

June 9 wine and food pairing at The Inn

The Inn at ONU will host a 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 9, wine and food pairing event, featuring an outstanding selection of fine wins nd food. Cost is $45 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Inn at 419-772-2500.
