ONU Marching Band field commander Ryan Briley attempted to make history by playing “The Longest Note” in front of Heterick Memorial Library on Tuesday. There's still time to join us this week as the Star of Northwest Ohio commemorates 125 years of accomplishment.

The following story is from ONU's Facebook:

For 125 years, the Ohio Northern University Marching Band contributed to the Northern campus and the Ada community.

When students J.B. McArthur and S.H. Myers led the first marching band in 1890, it is doubtful that either considered the legacy they were leaving.

The Ada High School marching band hit the road at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 to compete in two OMEA-sanctioned events.

The band first performed during a rainy Bloom-Carroll Classic Marching Band Competition in Carroll, Ohio.  Ada was awarded Best Color Guard, Best Percussion and Best Music in Class C. The band placed 1st in Class C and 2nd in the combined Class B/C events.

The band then headed to Tri-Valley High School in Dresden to perform in the Tri-Valley Classic against 10 bands in the combination B/C class.

There was plenty of pride at Monday's Buy Local event held in conjunction with the Kiwanis Halloween parade. Depot visitors sampled Ada's own Harvest Pride tortillas and chips. Dawn Steiner (right) and Denise Grappy helped out with the taste tests.

Four members of the Ada High School boys' soccer team received all-Northwest Conference honors at the end of the season. Ada finished in 4th place at 1-3-1 and 2-13-1 overall.

First team from Ada:
• Will Allen, junior

Second team from Ada:

•Logan Williams, sophomore
