Ada-Liberty and Bluffton EMS respond to US 30 crash

On September 1 Hometown Stations of Lima reported that the Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a 2:30 p.m. single vehicle rollover crash on US 30 near SR 235.

Peter Smith, age 76, from Alexandria Virginia struck two construction barrels while traveling westbound. His vehicle went off the roadway and overturned several times. Smith sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by Ada/Liberty EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital. Passenger Ryan Smith, age 16, sufferen non-life threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by Bluffton EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital.

Early morning tractor trailer-bicycle crash kills cyclist

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning crash on State Route 235 near County Road 80 north of Alger that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Jayden Elwood of Ada. 

Hardin County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 5:07 a.m. reporting a bicyclist possibly being struck by a tractor trailer travelling north bound on State Route 235. Responding deputies were able to locate the bicycle and rider--later identified as Elwood, off the east side of the roadway, where he was determined to be deceased.

S. JOHNSON ST. ROLLOVER DISABLES 2 VEHICLES

The Ada Police Department reported that at 10:37 a.m. on August 14, a vehicle traveling south on S. Johnson St. struck a legally parked vehicle at 721 S. Johnson. The moving vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side and front and side airbags deployed. The parked car was pushed some 7 feet south of its original position.

Annalisa Hughes, 34, who was driving an SUV, claimed no injuries on scene. The parked vehicle was unoccupied. 

Disabling damage to both vehicles was noted and Hughes’ SUV was towed from the scene.

Ada Police, Fire and EMS units reponded to the incident.

A two-car crash occurred on Main Street north of Lincoln Ave. at 11:19 a.m. on Monday, August 14.

Two-county high speed pursuit ends with capture of four in stolen vehicle

An attempt to stop a speeding vehicle resulted in a 17-mile, 2 county high-speed pursuit for Hardin County Deputies on Monday night, August 7. The pursuit began at 11:33 p.m. when deputies observed the vehicle being operated in excess of the posted speed limit on N. Detroit St. in the City of Kenton. When signaled to stop the driver refused to do so, leading deputies south on Ohio Route 31 into Union County. The vehicle, which was found to be stolen, was stopped after the deployment of stop sticks and pit maneuver tactics. 

The car’s driver and 3 other occupants were taken into custody.  The driver was later arrested and transported to the Multi County Correctional Center in Marion, with charges pending for numerous traffic violations, felony fleeing, and receiving stolen property.  The other occupants were released. The incident remains under investigation. 

No injuries were sustained because of the incident.  

Hardin County deputies were assisted by deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office and by Osborn’s Towing and Recovery Service.
