Amanda Markley taught 5th grade at Bluffton Elementary School

Amanda Jane (Rayl) Markley, age 43, of Lima, left this life at 1:58 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home with the love of her family by her side.

She was born October 7, 1979, in Lima to Charles D. Rayl and Jane Laura (Staley) Rayl. Her mother survives in Lafayette and her father and stepmother, Janice Rayl survive in Lima. On June 18, 2005, she married her longtime friend, Aaron G. Markley who also survives.

Notice of Planning Commission public hearing on parcel rezoning

Due to lack of a quorum on Tuesday, January 25, the Village of Ada has announced a new public hearing date for the Ada Planning Commission:

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the Ada Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the matter of changing three parcels, formerly known as 218, 220 and 226 N. Liberty from Residential II (R2) to Industrial II (I2). This change is being requested by the Wilson’s Football Factory.

The hearing will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Ada Village Council Chambers located at 115 W. Buckeye, Ada, Ohio.

AHS girls basketball win vs USV

Playing at home, the Ada High School girls basketball team got a scare from Upper Scioto Valley before pulling away late to win their annual tussle 49-34 Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs finished the tense, physical contest on a 10-1 run to keep the upset-minded Rams at bay. Ada also put together a key 11-0 spurt to end the first half after feisty USV had inched within 17-16.

AHS boys basketball loss at New Knoxville

The visiting Ada High school boys basketball team got outscored 24-14 in the fourth period and lost 66-56 at New Knoxville in a makeup contest Tuesday night, January 24.

The Bulldogs trailed 16-15 after the first period, but rallied to lead 27-23 at halftime. New Knoxville tied it 42-42 after three quarters with a 19-15 third stanza.

Hardin County candidate filing deadlines for 2023 general election

CORRECTION: This article has been corrected to show that two (2) Ada council member terms will expire at the end of this year.

The Hardin County Board of Elections has announced that the filing deadline for partisan candidates and local questions and issues for the May 2, 2023 Primary Election, including local option petitions, is February 1, 2023. 

Petitions must be filed at the Hardin County Board of Elections by 4:00 p.m. A State of Ohio candidate requirement guide can be found HERE.

Snow emergency ordinance reminder

“During the existence of an emergency snow conditions, no person shall park a motor vehicle upon the following public streets in the Village, as follows:

No parking shall be permitted on:

Gilbert Street from Lima Avenue to North Street;

Johnson Street from Lima Avenue to North Street;

Simon Street Lima Avenue to North Street;

Lincoln Avenue from Corporation line to Corporation line;

Turner Avenue from Main Street to Grand Avenue;

Montford Avenue from Main Street to Liberty Street,

Highland Avenue from Gilbert Street to Simon Street,

Buckeye Avenue from Johnson Street to Grand Avenue and University Avenue from Main Street to Ream Street.
