Photo-story: Ada's Gossard plays for 'Berg at ONU

By Cort Reynolds

Ada High School graduate Maddie Gossard played her final senior games for Heidelberg University in a doubleheader at Ohio Northern University Saturday afternoon, April 30.

The first baseman singled in three at bats in the opener. ONU swept the close twinbill, 6-3 and 2-1 in eight innings.

Heidelberg ends its season 20-16 overall and 9-9 in OAC play, good for fifth place in the 10-team league. Only the top four make it to the OAC tournament, and the 'Berg missed qualification by one win.

ONU clinched the conference regular season title with the sweep, and improved to 21-9 and 16-2 in the OAC.

The visiting Ada High School baseball team lost a tough 6-4 battle at county rival Kenton in non-conference play Saturday.

Ada fell to 5-10 overall with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Wildcats improved to 3-10 with the win.

Kenton led 3-0 after three innings. Ada pulled within 3-2 with two scores in the top of the fourth frame. The Wildcats responded with three runs in the home fourth to rebuild the advantage to 6-2.

The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the top of the fifth, but could get no closer the rest of the way.

Local businesses claim Made in Ada sponsorships

The sixth annual Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival (Aug. 27), coordinated by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, has announced several key sponsorships by area businesses, including a major gift by a business still in development.

Old Route 69 Brewery, which will be located in the former Cole Motors building at 120 E. Buckeye, is the sponsor of the festival stage, a major expense for the event. On April 27, owner Troy Erickson presented a check to chamber director Lindsay Walden and president Becky Neville.

Weekend Doctor: Hospital prep

By William Kose, MD, JD, Vice President of Special Projects – Blanchard Valley Health System

One of my friends asked the other day about how he could file his advance directives, specifically durable power of attorney and living will, with the hospital to be used in emergencies. In addition, there are many different pieces of information that would be helpful whenever someone comes to a hospital, emergency room or sees a physician.

We begin with what the primary problem is or chief complaint. It is helpful to write down the problem, what are the symptoms and what are your concerns and questions, so that nothing is missed in the encounter.
