Gossman public auction includes record prices for tractors

Tractors sold at a recent Ada area public auction made record prices. The Gossman farm retirement auction held on December 10 included a Ford and a New Holland Tractor which each sold for new record auction prices. The 2000 New Holland 8670 with 3131 hours sold for $71,000.

St. Mark Lutheran resumes Community Meals on Dec. 29

St. Mark Lutheran Church is resuming Community Meal service on from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday December 29.

The church is located at the corner of East Lincoln and South Johnson.  You may drive up, carry out or dine in.  The menu is turkey dressing casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, fruit cup and cookie.

Book Review: The Stranger in the Lifeboat

And now a brief word about the Lord.

Mitch Albon's new novel “The Stranger in the Lifeboat” (Harper Collins: ISBN978-0-06-288834) is a conundrum and mystery. Is it a discussion about God, or is it a study into the human condition? It is both.

A $200,000 yacht explodes in the middle of the ocean. All that's left behind is a raft containing ten people. They are a mixed group containing men and women and a young girl named Alice.

And then they are confronted by a man floating in the water three days after the explosion. When he's pulled into the raft someone says, “Thank the Lord we found you.” The man whispers back, “I am the Lord.” 

Scholarship applications being accepted

The University Club II Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for its annual $1,000 college scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior college student who has graduated from a Hardin County (Ohio) high school.

Late spurt lifts Bulldog boys over NK

The Ada High School boys basketball team finished on an 8-2 run to defeat visiting New Knoxville 47-42 in a hard-fought non-conference battle Thursday night, December 23.

Clutch junior guard Spencer Wall sank a driving layup and a driving bank shot 25 seconds apart to put the Bulldogs ahead 43-40 with 2:11 remaining.

Ada junior Carter Conley and Wall each canned two free throws in the final 41 seconds to preserve the win.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-4 overall with their second straight victory, and they surpassed last season's win total with the triumph. 

NK dropped to 1-8 with the defeat.

McGuffey Historical Society award for home decoration

Claude and LaVerne Conley won the 2021 McGuffey Memories Historical Society house decorating contest and were awarded a $50 gift card.  

Marianna Watts commented, "It was great to see so many people in the village decorating their houses!"
