Ada has lots to offer for a small town - just ask Becky Neville

Ada has lots to offer for a small town.

Just ask Becky Neville, broker for Century 21 Beacon Realty, 208 N. Main St., Ada. She’s been telling about all the good things that the community offers since she purchased a realty office in Ada in 2001.

“Ada offers all kinds of cultural and educational-related opportunities with Ohio Northern University,” she said. “And, there are lots of very nice people who live here. We have a great school and the community is involved in the village activities.”

“I love being on Main Street…love saying hello to my neighbors, and doing business locally,” she adds.

Neville became a realtor in 1983 in Kenton with Century 21. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from ONU and took graduate-level work in historic preservation.

During her graduate studies she realized that she needed to know more about real estate. “I love old buildings. Historical preservation and real estate was a good fit for me,” she said.

Neville is a broker, appraiser and Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI).

Beacon Realty’s market is Hardin, Allen, Hancock and Logan counties. As a broker and appraiser, Neville becomes involved in residential, commercial, land and farm sales.

Darla Crownhart, realtor, has worked with Neville as a sales associate since 2007.

Neville says that there are several steps to go through to process listing a property. These often begin with a market evaluation, which compares homes recently sold, to the property being listed.

“The price for real estate is established in negotiations between the seller and the buyer. We don’t set the price,” she said.

Beacon Realty averages between 20 and 40 listings at any one time. “It used to be that spring and summer were hot for the real estate market. Now everyone moves at different times of the year,” said Neville.

In Ada, summer is a strong selling season because that’s when ONU law and pharmacy students and new ONU faculty start looking for residences.

The growth of the Internet has affected the real estate landscape. “We list on multiple websites, maybe as many as 10 plus on The Ada Icon,” she said.

Commenting on the local real estate market, Neville said that it is good. “We have a good level of employment and interest rates are low. That combination makes this a good time to buy a property,” she said. “We can help potential buyers finance a purchase because we work with several local banks and credit unions,” she said.

Reflecting on her profession, Neville said that real estate is a fascinating business. “You meet new people every day.”

Neville is involved in real estate on multi-levels. She is a member of the West Central Association of Realtors, Heartland Board of Realtors, Ohio Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Locally she belongs to the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, Ada CIC and Ada Rotary Club.
